Screening audiometry is a regularly undertaken hearing test at the workplace. It checks the effectiveness of the noise control measures undertaken by the company. In April 2006, screening audiometry became mandatory for all UK employees exposed to levels of 85dB(A) on a daily basis. Ideally you would start the before people are exposed to noise (ie for new starters or those changing jobs), to give a baseline. It can, however, be introduced at any time for employees already exposed to noise. This would be followed by a regular series of checks, usually annually for the first two years of employment and then at three yearly intervals (although this may need to be more frequent if any problem with hearing is detected or where the risk of hearing damage is high). This follows implementation of the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005.

The test result, a pure-tone audiogram, is a highly repeatable exact reading of the hearing thresholds by frequency, categorised to the new (2005) HSE recommended guideline. We administer a questionnaire and visually inspect the ears. Hearing tests are carried out during working hours, with minimal disruption, in a professional manner and at a competitive, all-inclusive rate.

In addition we can provide spirometry screening (lung function tests), and HAVS (Hand Arm Vibration) assessments and noise assessments.

In many cases we can cost-efficiently combine audiometry with spirometry, skin checks and HAVS assessments.
